3 Simple Habits That Will Enhance Your Health – Start Now!
1. Detoxify + Hydrate Daily
This healthy habit is so simple! Each night fill your teapot with filtered water and place a lemon on the counter next to a drinking glass and your cayenne pepper. Upon rising in the morning, go turn on the heat to warm your water. Squeeze the juice of 1 lemon into 16 oz of your warmed water and add a tiny pinch of chili powder. Bottoms up! Try to wait 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything else. Here’s what this does for you.. Explanation courtesy of Foodbabe : Doing this ritual every morning provides a super stimulant to the liver, your main detoxing organ in the body. Your liver will release uric acid and create bile to safely eliminate environmental and lifestyle toxins that would otherwise be trapped in your digestive system longer. Remember keeping your liver and digestive system clean and in optimal condition will help your body prevent diseases like cancer in the future. Combining cayenne with lemon increases the detoxing effect and raises the temperature of your body increasing your metabolism. Drinking this combination will cleanse your body every single day safely and naturally. I plan to do it for the rest of my life. Join me and watch your vitality increase!
2. Move Your Body
We all know that we are supposed to exercise daily. But that’s not always a realistic expectation. I feel that many of us become discouraged when we are unable to fit in a work out and simply decide to opt out all together. Recently I was researching the habits of individuals that have achieved healthful longevity. Those that have not just lived a long life but those also have been able to retain full cognitive and physical health into their 90’s. One of the trends noted is very simple. Engaging in enjoyable physical activity. I’m not talking a 60 minute cardio sesh.. I mean get up and move around… Housework, taking the stairs, dancing with your kids, going on a walk – all of it counts. If you have a job that requires long hours of sitting, get up and actively stretch every hour (and ignore the sideways glances from co-workers). It is what our bodies are meant to do. Here’s the catch.. you have to be enjoying yourself. So do your best to be present mentally within your activity, break a sweat once a day, and allow yourself to soak up the benefits.
3. Eat Slowly – Eat With Purpose
Here’s one I have A LOT of trouble with. My first meal of the day typically consists of coffee and the scraps of whatever is left on my children’s breakfast plates. When I am busy, I try to save time by eating on my feet. Not good… It takes 20 minutes on average for the satiety center in our brains to say STOP eating, Im full! Also, by the end of the day I have no idea how much I have actually eaten. A bite here and a bite there equal out to more calories then we think. Studies show that if you give yourself 20 minutes to sit down, be present once again, and chew and eat slower, you will be more aware of your body and eat up to 20 percent less. For the past 2 weeks I have promised myself that I would carve out 20 minutes for myself, at least during lunchtime, to eat and chew with purpose. My snacking has decreased significantly. Try it! Have a seat, and enjoy your food!
